Difficult Passages | Pasajes difíciles
This past month we have been focusing on getting in the Bible, The Word of God, and letting it transform your life. Now, the best advice I ever got, about reading the Bible, was to pray to God for wisdom and then to do the hard work and start reading through the Bible. Pretty simple, huh? Now, that being said, what about reading through difficult passages? The Bible is hard enough with foreign lands, unique people and special laws. Then there are the passages of endless genealogies and lists of materials for the tabernacle and other seemingly tedious and apparent out of date ideas. What is one to do with these passages? Ignore them? Skip them? Cut them out of the Bible? Well, I assure you, these passages are there for a reason, and over time, as you continue to dwell in the Word of God, you will have a greater appreciation for these, seemingly, difficult passages.
Now, several scriptures come to mind as I think of responses to these questions The first scripture which comes to mind is, II Tim 3:16, “All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” God has a reason for every scripture he has in place. Some may be more challenging than others, of course, but very rewarding once you have done the work of figuring them out. Genealogies, for example, are just that. At first they can seem very daunting and very useless, but I assure you, as you study through genealogies, you will begin to have an accurate view of history and an understanding of why things are the way they are today. Let alone, genealogies point to the historical accuracy and reliability that Jesus Christ is the true messiah from the line of King David, as was prophesied in scripture.
This brings me to the next two scriptures I am reminded of. First is Deuteronomy 29:29, “The secret things of the Lord are His, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law,” and the next scripture is Proverbs 25:2 which states, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” God is infinite and we are finite. There are things about God and His coming kingdom we will just not know or understand until we are with him face to face in heaven. Yet, as much as is concealed by him and kept as secrets, he does reveal truths about himself to us and allows us to seek him out, with the help of the Holy Spirit of course. And those who search him out and seek to understand him will bring much glory to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and be fully satisfied in him. And once you discover revealed truths about him we are to tell others about these wonderful truths.
Lastly, what are some practical things you can do to get through these difficult passages? The most important thing is to ask God for wisdom as you read these difficult passages. The next thing is to read through difficult passages. Don’t get too hung up on not understanding the passage at first. There are many passages of scriptures, which even the scholared of theologians have a tough time understanding. Usually, I will write down that scripture, continue reading and try and get the overall picture of what is going on. I will then come back to that passage later and look to a commentary to explain some details of that passage. Next, seek out other Christians and see if you can’t wrestle through the passage together. And finally, keep reading through the Bible, over and over and over. Remember, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings to search out a matter.” Reading the Bible can be tough at times but very rewarding and satisfying when you stay the course.
El mes pasado nos hemos centrado en introducir la Biblia, la Palabra de Dios, y dejar que transforme su vida. Ahora, el mejor consejo que recibí sobre la lectura de la Biblia fue orar a Dios pidiendo sabiduría y luego hacer el trabajo duro y comenzar a leer la Biblia. Bastante simple, ¿eh? Ahora, dicho esto, ¿qué hay de leer pasajes difíciles? La Biblia ya es bastante difícil con tierras extranjeras, personas únicas y leyes especiales. Luego están los pasajes de genealogías interminables y listas de materiales para el tabernáculo y otras ideas aparentemente tediosas y obsoletas. ¿Qué va a hacer uno con estos pasajes? ¿Ingnóralos? ¿Omitirlos? ¿Quitarlos de la Biblia? Bueno, les aseguro que estos pasajes están ahí por una razón, y con el tiempo, a medida que continúe morando en la Palabra de Dios, tendrá un mayor aprecio por estos pasajes aparentemente difíciles.
Ahora, varias escrituras me vienen a la mente cuando pienso en las respuestas a estas preguntas. La primera escritura que me viene a la mente es, II Timoteo 3:16, “Toda escritura es inspirada por Dios y útil para enseñar, para redargüir, para corregir y para instruir en justicia, para que el hombre de Dios sea adecuado, equipado para toda buena obra ”. Dios tiene una razón para cada escritura que tiene. Algunos pueden ser más desafiantes que otros, por supuesto, pero muy gratificantes una vez que haya hecho el trabajo de resolverlos. Las genealogías, por ejemplo, son solo eso. Al principio pueden parecer muy abrumadores y muy inútiles, pero les aseguro que, a medida que estudien las genealogías, comenzarán a tener una visión precisa de la historia y a comprender por qué las cosas son como son hoy. Y mucho menos, las genealogías apuntan a la precisión y confiabilidad histórica de que Jesucristo es el verdadero mesías de la línea del rey David, como fue profetizado en las Escrituras.

Y aquellos que lo busquen y traten de comprenderlo traerán mucha gloria a nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo y estarán completamente satisfechos en él. Y una vez que descubras las verdades reveladas sobre él, debemos contarles a otros sobre estas maravillosas verdades.
Por último, ¿cuáles son algunas de las cosas prácticas que puede hacer para superar estos pasajes difíciles? Lo más importante es pedirle a Dios sabiduría al leer estos difíciles pasajes. Lo siguiente es leer pasajes difíciles. No se obsesione demasiado con no entender el pasaje al principio. Hay muchos pasajes de las Escrituras que incluso los teólogos eruditos tienen dificultades para comprender. Por lo general, escribiré ese pasaje de las Escrituras, seguiré leyendo y trataré de tener una idea general de lo que está sucediendo. Luego volveré a ese pasaje más adelante y buscaré un comentario para explicar algunos detalles de ese pasaje. Luego, busque a otros cristianos y vea si pueden juntos trabajar en el pasaje. Y finalmente, siga leyendo la Biblia, una y otra vez. Recuerde: “Es la gloria de Dios ocultar un asunto, pero la gloria de los reyes es investigar un asunto”. Leer la Biblia puede ser difícil a veces, pero muy gratificante y satisfactorio cuando se mantiene el rumbo.
